Daihatsu was established by a group led by professors from National Osaka University.
A gas engine was developed, and widely used by the mining industry, and received wide acclaim for its durability. Then, we developed and manufactured a diesel engine. The construction of this excellent engine was revolutionary for the time, and closely resembles the construction of the pre-combustion chamber type used today. |

| 1930 | We started to manufacture automobiles with our advanced engine technology, and have subsequently served a leading role in the motorization of Japan. | |
| 1986 | Our Industrial Engine Division was founded, and the industrial engines derived from our automotive engines were launched in the market. Business tie-up was signed with Briggs & Stratton Co. (B&S) of the USA. | |
| 1994 | We released the DM Series engines to the market, which are exclusively for the utility and/or industrial equipment. Daihatsu and B&S formed a joint-venture sales company in the USA called Briggs & Stratton-Daihatsu (B&SD). B&SD started to provide Daihatsu's DM Series engines as one of Vanguard series engines in the USA. |
